Quote: ??? Jeffe: are you thinking about the 240 Weatherby? I know you can swage a belt on 30-06 to make it, so using 25-06 would have to be easier. I think the 220 Rocket was Weatherby's first wildcat. It's just an improved swift. The shoulder angle is 33 degrees and it shortens the neck from 300 to 225 thou to increase case capacity. When choosing between the Ackley and the Weatherby versions I thought I'd go for the latter. Both need fireforming, the Weatherby just needs a little more preparation and has slightly more capacity. I can't see how neck turning could be achieved before fireforming, though.

This post didn't get any answers in the reloading forum, so I've reposted it here. The 220 Weatherby Rocket has a shorter neck than the Swift, so before fireforming I plan to neck it up to 243thou with a tapered expander and then neck it down to 224thou with a neck sizing die just enough to achieve a crush fit in the chamber on the dummy shoulder. Is 243thou enough? Perhaps 264thou? Any experiences with this cartridge?

Maybe expand to .257 (split the differance). You can also do the size down with a standard die that has been backed off from the shellholder (if you dont have a neck die). You have the process right, search for fireforming the 30Gibbs (wildcat) round here and on www.reloadbench.com as the process is the same for both.
