Still working on my "best" load for my 17 Mach IV, but it will likely be either Benchmark or H322 for powder, and 20gr Bergers for the bullet. Try the following link for a great small caliber forum. Use their search function for your favorite topic.
Bacause I own both cartridges you mentioned, my M4 has been regulated to being a coyote rifle now. Although it shot the 20 grain bullets very well, I settled on 25 grain bullets for my coyote shooting. 19.5 of 2230 powder and the 25 Berger moly bullets really hit them hard, much better than the 20 grain does, especially at longer distances.. For the 17AH I shoot 20 grain Hornady V-Max on top of 12.2 grains of 1680. This load works great for both fire-forming and reloading formed cases. I was loading 12.4 or 12.5 but decided my case life and barrel life would be best at 12.2 besides, gophers don't know the difference..

I shoot the 17 AIH in a 16 inch Bulberry built Contender barrel and I shoot the plain jane hornady 25 grain hollow point over 8.5 grains of 2400 (actually got the original load data from Ackley's book). Shoots very well, leaves a window in ground squirrels (all vital organs exit thru this window too). This is actually reduced, but a good starting point. Don't forget to smoke your bullet and check your oal cartridge length, if you let the bullet touch the lands your pressure will go up dramatically. Gary
The only powder I had much luck with in a MACH IV Bullberry Condender barrel was H332. The Remington bullets were far more accurate than the Hornadys too. Didn't try any Berger's, etc.

I have a .17 Mach 4. Its a Bullberry barrel for my contender. I have not done a lot with it yet but it sure does like H322. The fire forming load groups at 3/4" at 100 yds.
