Thanks for the good info so far. I think I may be leaning toward the 338-06 or the 6.5-06. Also, the 257 Ackley is a possibility. Decisions, decisions....

404 J's a wee bit of a jump from a 300 winny, and fails the test of reasonable brass, bullets and dies, but, it'll definately fit the looky what I got catagory

On the Mauser line of brass, 6mm Rem AI, 257 Roberts AI, 7x57 AI, 8mm AI. Standard chambers such as the 6.5x55SE are excellent and the 9.3x62 is downright awesome on big game.

On the 06 brass 25-06AI, 6.5-06AI, 280AI, etc., would all serve well.

If you want something different, why not a 9,3X57 or a 5,6X57
