I would like some information on Warren Paiges 25 souper. Is the case just necked down to 25 cal? Is all the action need is rebarreling to a 25 cal? Thanks Al Garden View Apiaries where the view is as sweet as the honey.

My Speer volume #1 has loading information on the .25 Souper but it is listed as a P.F.Lampert wildcat and not that of Warren Paige. It states that it is merely a Necked down .308 case. I will be willing to copy this info for you and E-Mail it to you if you send your E-mail address. roger Old age is a high price to pay for maturity!!! Roger is right. The 25 Souper is the 308W necked to 25 with no other changes. It actually originated prior to the 308W by using 30-06 brass (25 L&W Super) but the dimensions were pretty much the same. The introduction of the 308W brass simply made it easier. There are 2 Page wildcats. The 240 Page and the 240 Page Super Pooper. The first was made from Frankford Arsenal experimental brass before it became the 308W and the latter from 57mm brass (257 Roberts or 244 Rem). Both wildcats died when the the 243W and 244 Remington were introduced. Ray Arizona Mountains

one of pages rifles, i'm not sure wheather it was the 243 page or the super pooper was built on a bsa action, i know because it is in a friends collection. i have a custom sako in 250 savage ackley improved, had it to do over it would be a 25/308, brass is easier to find and cheaper. today you can use 260 remington instead of 308, less stress on the neck during forming.

I'm looking at a rebarrel of a Ruger MkII SA. I was at Pac-Nor's site and they don't list a 25-08 or 25 Souper - Bummer!

A long throated .250-3000, 1 in 10 twist might serve you just as well. Basicly the same range of game. roger Old age is a high price to pay for maturity!!! Some never pay and some pay and never reap the reward. Wisdom comes with age! Sometimes age comes alone..

The real beauty of the 25 Souper [no matter who thought it up] is the brass. I have used the Lake City NM brass for both of mine and it seems to be the best. Cases last darn near forever and the thing is dirt a$$ accurate. Fire forming isn`t really needed and it feeds great. Velocity in mine is as good or better than a 25-06 and it likes about anything you care to feed it! I have another 700 in the "IMP" version that is a tad more accurate but finicky about powder/primer/bullet combinations. Hard to beat a short-light fast moving/pointing .25. I seem to remember Pac-Nor once told me they could use a smaller caliber reamer (with proper pilot) then use a neck reamer of the right diameter. For example by using a 243 reamer, then a 25 cal neck reamer and throater, they could make a 25 Souper. Bruce

Bruce Back when I was a kid, that was the way a lot of shooters/gunsmiths made their chambers. Because the neck/throat area of a reamer is hard to grind it was far easier to have three reamers - one for the body, another for the neck, and a third for the throat. That way you can also make an entire series of wildcats at far less expense. Such as a .17, 22, 24, and 25 Wasp. Ray Arizona Mountains
