What would be a good rate of twist in a 6mm-284 for 65 - 85 grain bullets? I thinking 1 in 12. Any ideas?

twist rate is link too bullet lenght and not bullet weight , even with VLD in 88 gr or Lapua 90 gr are longer

more you increase velocity more you increase bullet revolution so more you get your bullet stabilized
if 1 in 12 work in regular 6 mm as 244 REM normaly at full velocity 1 in 13 or 1 in 14 can work depend if your barrel maker can do that most commun pith are 1 in 12 or 1 in 14

1/12" should work O.K., as long as you limit your loads to the weights you mentioned. Use the Greenhill formula from Hatcher's notebook (or other references) to do this calculation.

My 6mm/.284 has a 1/10" twist, 26" Douglas Premium grade heavy sporter barrel, and shoots one-hole groups with the 85-grain Sierra HPBT, the 100-grain Sierra PSPBT, and all weights between these two extremes. I have never tried any bullets lighter than 85 grains in it.

The 6mm/.284 is a great cartridge, ballistically equal to the .240 Weatherby, and probably more accurate than the Weatherby!!
