I am getting ready to build a 338-06AI. Anyone out there now using one, I would like to know what you are getting in terms of preformance out of your rifle.

Havent decided what barrel length I want..I have a 35 whelen with a 24" tube...and I can easily get 2450-2550fps out of 250gr bullets.. I would probably stick to 210-225gr bullets in the 338. What kind of velocities are you getting in yours and what barrel length are you using...

I have my own 338-280Imp wildcat. Has a little more capacity than the 338Gibbs(11% increase over 338-06). While I love it. I would go with the 338-06 and be done with it. You are talking about 1.5-2 grains more powder capacity. That is only a 2.5% increase. So if you use the old standard for that velocity increase 25% of the powder increase then you are talking 15-25fps gain from the AI over standard. I would go with a 24" and noslers 210PT. You should be able to get close to 2800Fps. If you need a heavier bullet use your Whelen.

As usual just my $.02
