I'm planing a small wildcat--the .225 Winchester case necked up to .25. I have the barrel, dies, and reamer, and the stock blank. Now all I need to find (decide on) an action. It will probalby be a Ruger No1 if I can find an action. This will come close to the capacity of a .250/3000 but will have a rimmed case head. Has anyone else tried this?

Well the .225 is in the same league as the 22-250 and almost the 220 Swift....so then its 25 caliber counterparts would basically be 250 Savage and 257 Roberts, going by original cases. Probably has been done, extremely rare to do something that hasn't, especially on a case more then 2 days old lol. I think you'd be creating something between the 250 and 257, but with a rim. If you think every possible niche has been filled already, thank a wildcatter!

Between a 25-35 and a 250-3000 ??? roger Old age is a high price to pay for maturity!!! Some never pay and some pay and never reap the reward. Wisdom comes with age! Sometimes age comes alone..

The cartridge is called the .257 JDJ and has been around for about thirty years. Actually the JDJ cartridge is blown out with a sharper shoulder, but the performance will be very similar. It might be cheaper just to have SSK do the barrel, they have the reamer and dies and do very fine work on Number Ones. You do pay for the quality, but it will shoot better than a Number One rebarreled by the average no-name 'smith. /
