Remington 700 action.

Hart 26 inch, 9 twist barrel.

Jewel trigger.

As we usually do, we select our brass for each rifle - we buy in bulk, prepare them and weigh them.

Then we sort them by weight.

Got about 120 selected 270 Winchester cases, all within one grain weight.

Made 140 grain bullets to fireform them.

Used 51 grains of VVN 165, cases slightly sized - bullets can be seated by hand with some effort.

Bullets were hitting the targets slightly sideways, as the bullets were not being stabilized.

And as I already had the VVN 165 powder in the measure, I thought I will use that one with our 90 grain bullets.

Maximum velocity with this powder was 3664 fps, with 67 grains of powder.

Primers are Federal 210M.

I shot 3 shot groups, and they look very good.

Have not measured them yet, as several target are still on the target holder.

Ran out of powder space, even using a long powder drop tube.

Next is the VVN 160.

Only shot one load, 55 grains.

3171 fps, and the group is best so far, looks like one ragged hole!

Will keep you updated as I progress.

My cousin Maktoum came over this afternoon while I was shooting this rifle.

He tried a couple of loads, and got a 0.18” group!

He was very happy. clap

Those are great groups.

How is it stocked? What does the rifle weigh?

Also, why did you choose 1:9 vs 1:8? I suppose to shoot lighter bullets?

You have some great groups. How does this compare to the 6.5-280 AI? Longer neck?

I have finished shooting the 90 grain bullets, and have started on 119 grains.

have not done much as I got other things to get done.

But, from a practical point of view, any of the 6.5 wildcats based on any of the cases based on the original 30-06 will be the same.

Different rifles will give different results, but not much that it would make any difference in real world hunting.

I will post all my results once I am done.

Someone brought in a Remington 700 BDL in 7x64 Brenneke.

He wants it rebarreled with one chambered for this one!

I asked him if I could shoot it first, as the rifle looks hardly used, and it would be interesting to see the results, before and after.

It has a normal hunting barrel, with open sights.

I will put a scope on it, clean it, and shoot it as is.

Then we will change the barrel, bed it, and shoot it again with the new cartridge.

And as I have no 7mm bullets in my stock, I am running a batch of those now.
