Hello, I really want to rebarrel a Rem700 ADL in 223 to 6X47 but I am finding the mag box a bit short. The dummy I loaded was 2.45in. per Hodgdon's relaoding manual
Should I load to a shorter OCL or is there a longer mag box I can get?

I bought a new 223 ADL for my 6*47 project rifle. Converted it to BDL, and the gunsmith modified the magazine for me. It's now set up to feed rounds up to 2.53 in length.

I didn't have access to a HS Precision magazine, but I wondered if it may have been easier to convert on of their single line feed mags. I guess it would still require smithing though.

Great round by the way. Thus far my longest hits were on a group of rabbits at 358 yards. Using the 70 gr Sierra BK at 3150 fps.

Thanks jb747, that confirmed my suspicion. Did you use the same follower? How long is your barrel?
I suppose another approach is to make a 6X45 instead. Except, I have 300 222 Rem Mag brass and the dies already.
jb474, would you care to share your favorite powder and your experiences with this cart.?

I have a couple of 6x47's, one on a 722 with 700 BDL bottom metal and the other in a Sako L461 Vixen. I love the caliber, it is the most effective varmint rifle I have ever used and one of the most accurate I have ever shot.

On the 722 and 700 there is a filler piece in the mag box for the shorter 222/223 cartridges, that filler must be made shorter to allow the longer 222 Mag case. I use the original follower with the original mag box and the shortened "filler" and have had no problems. On the 722 the filler is loose and just set in when assembling the action, on the 700 SA the filler is welded to one side of the box and will have to be cut lose then made smaller.

Good luck I hope that you will enjoy the 6x47 as much as I have.

John, consider that the 6X47 has almost identical case capacity to the 6 PPC, but a different shape ! That should help with powders an approximate performance which can be excellent in a varmint rifle. I found it to be a little finicky to load for, but was fun.

Wouldn't a mag box for a 204Ruger be about right?

Since the 204Ruger is simply the 222RemMag necked down...

It's always great to stumble onto a discussion of one of my favorite chamberings. I have a pair of 6x47s, my first is a Kimber of Oregon 84B Super America with a 1/9 twist factory barrel, and my other re-built and trued 700SA in a H-S Stock wearing a 23" Hart 1/13 twist barrel that came off of a S2 barreled 40X Remington that was shortened an recrowned.

The Kimber has take a few Oregon Blacktails, but is now a "Safe Queen" as it was just too pretty to mouse up in the field.

The Remington is my go to varmint gun. It shoots literally anything you feed it under an inch, and will shoot V-Max, BK, BT and Berger MEF under 1/2 inch with booring consistancy.

As jb747 mentioned, 3150 fps with 70 grain bullets can be achieved without pushing things too hard, I can get 3200 with a max load of RL-7 and chances are you can get similar results with 10X, H322, and Benchmark.

Allen, you are correct in that the case is the same length as the 222 Rem mag (1.85in.) but they are keeping the overall cartridge length to 2.26 inches, the same as the 223 Rem. I dont know for sure but my guess is they are using the same mag box for the 204 as the 223 family of cartridges. I'll look into it. Good idea.
I'll probably try to modify the mag box myself when I get time. They are about $9 to replace if it doesnt work the first time.
