These were fired from a Jap arisaka action with a 20" douglas premium barrel made sometime in the 1950's. I inhereited it and the original owner used 51 gr. of H4831. 120 gr bullets, I use nosler ballistic tips. R22....51.5 H4831...50.5 H4350...47.0 These are not the maximum loads I used! Look for data on the .257 Roberts improved and you can start from the bottom end and work up.

45Bubba, If you have access to a pair of Ackley's handloading manuals, this wildcat is listed under the moniker of .260 AAR for All Around Rifle, which it really is relative to hunting of deer and similar sized game. Ackley's loading data, however, tend to be a bit on the hot side in my rifle so I would use them carefully. I have about 20 years of loading and hunting experience with this fine round and will be happy to share some suggestions and loads if you want to contact me directly via e-mail (rtmoore3@comcast.net). Let me know what bullet weight you plan to use, and I probably have tried loads for it with one or more powders. I burn a lot of H414, H4350, and AA4350 in mine with lesser quantities of H4831 and equivalent IMR selections. My preferred bullet weights are 120 grains, but my rifle shoots all weights well from 85 to 160 grains. Russ nFC

Dear Bubba- I made up a 260 AAR back in `78 on a BSA Med action. This is essentially the 6.5/257 AI. I use 47.7/IMR 4350 for the 129 Hornady bullets and it is one good shooting rifle. I have used it on the large Axis deer in Hawaii as well as the elk here in Oregon. I like it in some instances as it is lighter than my 264 Mag. You got a neat calibre and excellent deer gun too. Enjoy!! Aloha, Mark[in Or]
