How many different wildcats are built on the .458 WM cartridge ?? The .416 Taylor Cartridge seems to be the most popular. HeeHaw

There are a flock of cartridges on the short magnum (2.5") case, and many wildcats to boot. To add to the list: .411 KDF. It is fun to check P.O. Ackley's book and see all the work that has been done in the past. jim dodd

I'm sure somebody has blown it out straight to a .475" as well, I've considered doing that one myself for a cast bullet slinger

I forgot, there is one that uses the .429" 44 mag bullet, but I don't recall it's name. I'm also sure someone has done a 9.3mm. __________________________________________________ The AR series of rounds, ridding the world of 7mm rem mags, one gun at a time.

Yes, there are. And the .458 was not the first commercial short magnum. It seems the .275 H&H likely was. It was an exactly 2.5" case. About 10 years later (1920, I seem to recall), BSA also brought out the .330 BSA which was just a bit shorter, with .338 diameter bullets. My country gal's just a moonshiner's daughter, but I love her still.
