HI
Hows this for an idea??
Get a 6.5x55 and run a 6 BR norma reamer into the chamber to clean out the shoulder and give the case a 30 degree shoulder(normal go guage length of the 6.5x55)
It should give you a 6.5BRx55 Norma.
Use Lapua brass or Hirtiburger (White box ammunition in Victoria has cases)
Load it to 308 pressures in a modern action (mine is being built on a Tikka 695).
Can still use 6.5x55 if out hunting and fireform brass as you hunt.
Get a body die from Redding and have JLC precision in the states do a Neck bushing conversion (needs 3-5 fired cases) and you can use a standard seater.
120's at 3100 shouldn't be a problem with less than 50 grains of AR 2209 or 2213SC.

6.5-06 would be easiest of the two. I'd be more partial to the .264 WM myself, especially with max loads and 156gr. Norma Oryx bullets, that would be hell on damn near everything. I love the 6.5x55 on it's own though, and mine seems to shoot the 129gr. Hornady perfectly much to my pleasure, right at 2800fps for whitetails. No complaints here!

Guys:

I am getting 3100 fps+ with my standard 6.5-06, IMR4831 powder, and a 120 Grain Sierra. No offense to anyone, but if throat erosion is a worry, quit thinking about velocity and load the little 6.5's, better yet just stay with factory stuff. LOL!
