Todd Kindler of the Woodchuck den has worked series of rounds called the classic series. He has reamer specs for 17-6.5. on a 30-30Imp shortened. He built them on Encores. He has them featured in one of this years issues of Small caliber news, I will have to dig it out. Should be along the same lines as a 219 Donaldson Wasp, depending on the case length neck length and shoulder angle you want to use.Performance should be similar.

Been thinking about getting a barrel for my encore in this caliber. Any experience with this out there. Any comments would be appreciated.

I have one. What would you like to know? In general terms, it is in the same class as a 22-250. I have used 30-30 brass and 375 win brass. The 375 is much stronger. To form the brass, I first run it through a 30-30 fl die (backed out a bit) then a 7-30 waters fl die, then a Hornady 6.5 neck die. At this point I anneal (sp?) the brass and then run it through the 22-30/30ai fl die. After I fireform, I then anneal (sp? again) once more. I guess I should have mentioned this is the way I form the 375 brass. I basically form the 30-30 brass the way, but the 30-30 brass will give you a 2 step shoulder. No big deal, but I feel I have more controll over the sizing when using the .375 brass.
Feel free to pm me with any questions. I am by no means an expert, but I have been playing with it for a while. It is a real neat round.
I'll have to check my notes to be sure, but I'm getting velocity something like high 3900's with a 40g bullet and a very mild load, low 3900's with a 50g and high 3700's with a 55g.

I dug up my notes and data and here goes:

40g V-Max

39g VV-140

Rem brass

Velocity 3987

*Not real hot, just shoots fantastic out of my barrel!!

50g V-max

37g IMR4064

Rem brass

WLMR primers

Velocity 3972

55g V-max

35g IMR4064

Rem brass

WLMR primers

Velocity 3744

All my initial load developments were with remington brass. I have been using winchester lately and have found it to be a bit thicker.

I pretty much use WLMR primers in just about everything. They are obviously not needed, WMR would be more appropriate. I just loaded up a bunch last night with the 375 brass, 50g V-max, Varget powder and WLR primers. I'll let you know my results over the weekend.

As always, these loads have proven safe in my barrel. Please use this for reference purposes only!

I checked my results on the 22-30/30ai with those found in an old P.O. Ackley book I have. He shows slightly faster MV than I do, but we are both in the same ballpark.

I am using this in an Encore. I had a .223 barrel rechambered.

I hope this helps somewhat.
