What could be expected out of a 2.5" .470, I was thinking along the lines of 500gr Woodleigh at 2100fps with a 26" barrel. A short capstick kind of like the .458 Win Mag and the .458 Lott, this would be a 2.5" .470 that could also work through a .470 Capstick. What does everybody else think? any info will be much appreciated.

Rock,
It sounds interesting. I have a Model 70 chambered for the full-length .470 Capstick, it is a fine buffalo-thumper.

Well, we could compare the difference between the .458" versions, the Win Mag and Lott, and extrapolate. If the WM does 2150 fps w/500g, and the Lott does 2350, then I'd expect the 470 C-s to do 2200, compared to Capstick's 2400.
That's a lot of power in a 500g .475" bullet, to be sure.
As for what I think, well, I can't see a good reason, frankly. And believe me, this from a guy who tries real hard to find a reason for my own 'cats. (See thread on 12mm Maus, exempli gratis.)
Fact is, 3.6" actions are about all that's out there these days, so there's no real need to limit yourself to 3.34", unlike the old days when "magnum" actions were few and pricey, and folks were trying to cram as much power into their little Winchesters and milsurp Mausers.
That said, if I had a pre-64 M70 I wanted to turn into a big bore buffalo buster, I might consider it.
Starting from scratch, it's really hard to get around the fact that you can pick up a CZ550 Looooong magnum for about $625.
