I had 1-8,5 on mine and it was able to shoot the really long ones well. A friend on mine had a 6,5-06 with a 1-9 and it didn't shoot the 140's that well but worked fine for long 120-130 grain bullets. I regret that I sold mine, silly me
I consulted Geoffery Kolbe of Border barrels before I decided to on 1-8,5. It's better to be sure than not really know if it might work of not
Thanks ramrod & johan. That is what I suspected, but, I wanted to hear it from someone with experience in the matter. I want a medium sporter weight contour (#3) stainless barrel and the Shilen barrels in Brownells have a 9 twist. I guess they are for the lighter bullets. I sent an email to Lothar Walther to find out what their specs are. I've been wanting to try one of their barrels. I've heard nothing bad about them. Thanks for the help, Roger.

Rojelio, I did a lot of research before having my 6.5-06 built... everyone I talked to recommended the 1X8 for 140's and above. The only thing I usally shoot in mine is Sierra 140SBT... does really well with them. Tried a few 95gr V Max's just for grins.... either TOO much speed or the fast twist... not as accurate as the 140's. CSJ

I'm waiting for my 26" Encore bbl in 6.5-06 Ackley and the standard twist from EABCO is 1-8". I bet it'll shoot those 140's like a house on fire. Wonder if it'll shoot 100 grainers well...

I have built several with Border barrel and match cmaber ( tight base , 292 neck ) I use barrel in 1 in 8.5 for 139 to 142 match bullet , 1 in 9 can works too but prefer hight velocity load to get bullet full stabilzed
6.5/06 is a very fine cartridge if you use a tighter base that the regular 06 to hold the case under hight pressure , 06 design is a old military cartridge with machine gun use in mind .
good shooting
