U R right Jeffe feeding was a dificult problem 2 overcome but it was accomplished. The wildcat made from that case by me was a 2.5" long case with a reasonably long neck. The problems I encountered stemed from what appeared to be soft brass. I used brass from 2 different manufacturors. The brass was slighty extruding into the ejector slot on the bolt .There realy were not any other pressure signs and the measured velosity indicated that the energy level was about2800 ft. lbs.

I did. Same Chamber. No more extrusion but I found out I have a rough chamber which I've been lightly reaming and lapping now 4 some time. The quest was to see what others have run into in case there is future life in wildcating 4 the.425WR. Any actually build a kitty w/ this case as parent?

Bart,
I've had a wildcat line in mind, for some time, of doing exactly this with 404 brass... and then the rum line came out...

2.5"... it works with so many actions, why bother changing it... and it CAN work in short mausers, which I am so found of, if oal is kept to 3.1 ish...

would get the 458 to 2150 with 500s, everytime, and work in just about any actions...

458 jeffe, anyone? no, wait, that's the rimmed one...
460 jeffe then

Rick Jamison has done quite a few on the short fat concept using the 425WR.(300 warthog was the first I think) He stopped development and went to the 404 because of the already stated poor brass quality and availability.
One thing that I have always found interesting is that he kind of went on about how well they would feed out of Rugers. Everyone else sure does give them a bad rep for feeding though.

Thanks Shawn,
This is exactly what I was looking for. You floored me about Jamison. I've been reading his stuff for many years off and on and completely missed that series of experiments.Charles Huntington was the one who finely agreed and told me that both brass manufactures made softish brass.
With a modified follower and a little Dremel work on rails and magazine walls feeding can be obtained on a Mauser.
