Nice looking cartridge. How does it compare to the 26 Nosler? **************** NRA Life Benefactor Member

Hello Dr. Lou, Swamplord measured the Nosler and Wby rounds, I measured the 26 Ripmoor: Comparison is roughly like this for now: 26 Ripmoor: 95.9 grains water 6.5/300Wby: 98.1 grains water 26 Nosler: 100.5 grains water The Weatherby folks are making wild claims, compared to the realistic Nosler claims, IMHO. The 26 Ripmoor loosens primer pockets if 140-grainers are pushed at much more than 3350 fps with Retumbo, 26" barrel. I will settle for finding the accurate load at about 3250 fps. Hey, my barrel will last for a few rounds more than the other two. Riflecrank Internationale Permanente

With the inauguration of the 45th President of the USA the clouds have begun too lift. Though a troublesome wind still blows and the ground is still a muddy mess, I am optimistic that it will soon dry to solid, and "great again." Yesterday the temperature was an unseasonable, chronograph-battery-warming 58 degrees F yesterday. The clouds served as sky screens. I popped off what I could when the rain stopped and the wind blew pleasantly. Time was limited so I hurriedly shot 5 shots over the chrono using the 26 Ripmoor, then grabbed the 10.4 Spiridon Moor for 5 more shots while the other cooled, and so on until the ammo was exhausted ... One time I switched rifles from the 26 Ripmoor Win M70 to the 10.4 Spiridon Moor CZ 550 Magnum, but did not switch grabbing from previous ammo box to the other. I accidentally loaded a 26 Ripmoor cartridge (.375 Ruger case head) into my 10.4 Spiridon Moor that takes a .338 Lapua case head. When I pulled the trigger there was no recoil, and a sound like a cap gun. The chronograph registerd 65 fps at a distance of 5 yards from the muzzle, as the .264/140-grain bullet tumbled by. No harm done except to my pride, and one cartridge case: It was a good day, overall. 6 different bullets were all loaded to 3.390" C.Oa.L., using 76.4 grains of Hodgdon's RETUMBO, and a Federal 215 primer. Chronographed 5-shots of each to calculate mean velocities and measured the smallest-dispersed 3 shots at 100 yards, since the wind was wind-ing and spreading groups to the right. Velocities at 5 yards, groups at 100 yards, interesting (to me) results: 140-grain Berger VLD-Hunting, G1 BC .612, bullet length 1.389": ...... 0.591" ...... 3242 fps 139-grain Lapua Scenar HPBT, G1 BC .616, bullet length 1.358": ....... 0.393" ...... 3290 fps 120-grain Barnes TTSX, G1 BC .412, bullet length 1.323": ............. 0.525" ...... 3406 fps 140-grain Sierra MatchKing, G1 BC .535, bullet length 1.313": ........ 0.308" ...... 3289 fps 142-grain Nosler AccuBond LR, G1 BC .719, bullet length 1.445": ...... 0.376" ...... 3277 fps 140-grain Hornady A-Max, G1 BC .585, bullet length 1.371": ........... 0.658" ...... 3287 fps I reckon the Nosler ABLR bullet is nicest for hunting purposes with either the 26 Nosler or the 26 Ripmoor. My next load with that bullet might be 77.0 grains of Retumbo instead of 76.4 grains. I like round numbers and like to push the envelope. I can use all the lesser bullets in the less finicky 6.5 Creedmoor. But can I hunt with MatchKing? Hey, has there ever been a thread about hunting with the Sierra MatchKing? The 26 Nosler is over the top in overbore capacity, next on their list is a 26 Nosler case necked down to a phonograph needle. Only funny if your old enough to remember what a phonograph needle is.. You got that right , Ray! That is why my 26 Ripmoor is better. Well, at least it is not quite so bad! What a RIP-off! Riflecrank Incurable Permanente
