I have necked up and FL the .220Russian cases in the 6PPC die. I proced to load them up nice and long, figuring I could perfect the COL later. I tried and tried and tried, but no matter how far I seated the bullet in, the rounds won't chamber. An empty case I pulled will chamber. Is this most likely a neck thickness problem?

Express, That would be my guess, a lot of PPCs have "tight neck" chambers (I think .261/.262" are the most common). If chamber/neck diameter is not marked on the barrel, you could see what it is by doing a chamber cast with Cerrosfafe. Or you could turn a case to around .260" (loaded neck diameter) and see if it chambers. What is the neck diameter of your loaded round? Regards, Bill

If you are fireforming 220 Russian, you are probably loading Lapua brass? A loaded Lapua case measures .271 to .270 at the neck (inches). Saami spec for the PPC-USA is .270. Most bench rest necks are in the .264 range. My guess is, yes, it's a neck issue. Find out from the 'smith what the neck dimension is on his reamer. HTH, Dutch.

express...just for fun i necked up a couple of 220 russian cases. then i measured the neck diameter and found that i would have had to turn them to get them to go in my gun. mine has a .270 neck. i can't remember the exact diameter of the necks of reformed cases but they were about .272 or .273 without a bullet in the case. good luck...bud

you can too try to form one or two brass with pistol powder and cream of weat to get the real form of your chamber and get a more accurate information on your chamber dim next point : when you load your load check your neck dia on all is lenght to be sure that you have not donut in the neck good shooting DAN TEC

Just so as to get our terminology sorted out; exactly what do you mean by "cream of wheat" ?

It's a wheat cereal. Looks kinda like oat-meal. Problem is, if your neck is the culprit here, using the pistol powder method still leaves you with a neck that must be turned before you can use the case. FWIW, Dutch.
