Is there any wildcats based on the 445 super mag pistol shell ? I have always wanted a 30-445 TC BBL ! Have it short throated for lite bullets, and sabots. What would be a good length for this ? 12" 14" ? Dwindling the worlds lead supply one cat at a time!!

I have a 30-445 Supermag wildcat that I call the .30HLS CHEAPSKATE. It was made by shortening a 30-06 barrel on the chamber end,the rim recess was lathe turned and the barrel was used to line an H&R shotgun. Dies were made by shortening a set of 30-06 dies. Brass is made by running .445 cases into the shortened fl die, slowly. No reaming is required and the case is used full length.Case capacity is 34.1 grs.of water. Best accuracy is with 110-150 gr. jacketed bullets,it groups about 1" at 100 yds. I use 30 Herrett and 7.62x39 data for loading. This project was done because of boredom. It was named the CHEAPSKATE because I had about $20 invested by the time it was done. WC

Do you still have a shell with a bullet on it ? I would love to see/have one, I will have to try and find a 30 cal carbine BBL for the TC and ream it out or would the chamber be to long ? I could use 308 dies and reammer. Dwindling the worlds lead supply one cat at a time!!

Reamers for the .308 family of cartridges are not a good ones to use as a basis for .445 SuperMag wildcats.Short chambering with a .308 reamer would give you a chamber base diameter of .4676 which is .0146 larger than the base of the .445 SuperMag. Reamers of the 30-06 family(.35 Whelen,.338-06,8mm-06.30-06,.280 Rem.,.270 Win..25-06,and 6mm-06) produce a chamber about .0051 larger at the base which is much more desireable. When necking to .30 caliber no neck reaming is required, smaller than .30 caliber reaming is required(.270 HLS Cheapskate,.25 HLS Cheapskate, etc). The .30 Carbine Contender barrel could be rechambered to either the .30 Herrett or the .30 HLS Cheapskate. The .30 Herrett would probably be the better choice for a Contender due to less back thrust and availability of cases. I just got your shell and I have to say I like it. I will be looking for a 30 carbine BBL and some old used 30-06 dies. Dwindling the worlds lead supply one cat at a time!!

Just for grins, I'll throw in this pic of another short little .30 cal wildcat. On left is the .30-06. In the middle is the 445 SM. Take a guess on the right one. If you guessed .30 Herrett, then you're right. If I were going to do a new one, I think I'd try a .307 x 1.5". MM

307 x 1.5 ..... ? Never seen one but yeah I think I heard of it. They have alot of cases made from 308 x 1.5s right. What I'm looking for is a .30 cal to use in a 10" TC to shoot the 85gr to 125gr sized bullets for plinking and small game, but it has to be a wildcat to give me something to work on and not many people have "around here anyway" but is easy to make. I assume that the .307x1.5 is the .308x1.5 Barnes with a rim,am I right? I have seen the case capacity of the .308x1.5 listed as 37.61 grs.of water to the case mouth. The useable capacity of the .308x1.5 would probably be about 34 + grs of water about the same as the useable capacity of the .30 Cheapskate which is 34.1 grs. of water. The capacity of the .30 Cheapskate to the case mouth is 39.5 grs. of water.Useable capacity is measured to the base of the neck. There probably would not be much difference between the .307x1.5 and the .30 Cheapskate at contender pressures. WC

Easy to make .30 cal wildcat. How about .30 HRT? Take the 6.8 SPC case, run into the .30 Herrett dies, trim a hair, .30 Herrett Rimless Tactical ... Or the .308 Sabre. Take 300 Win Mag dies shorten like Wildcat Crazy does, stick in 284 Win brass, 1.575 long, requires neck turning but can get close to 308 Win performance when pushed to 65,000 psi ....
