30-06 AI owners, have you tested shooting standard 30-06 loads in your 30-06 AI?
Have any problems?
Were they very accurate?
What about velocity?

Trying to get some real information on the old saying that "in a pinch you can shoot factory 30-06 in a 30-06 AI"

Someone reported a velocity loss of less than 100 fps. While I have a 30-06 40 degree improved I have no exact data on factory or military loads except that my rechamber was done right and they shoot just fine.

The velocity increase was not all that great. How could it be with such a small "improvement"

Mine was never a great group shooter to begin with, a 2-3" at 100 yds. was fine with me if I could do my part. I shot lots of standard 06 through it. can't remember the chrono. difference but just shot a bit lower on target. The improved weren't coming out much faster. I decided in the end not worth the improvement so had the gun changed.

So yes, it is perfectly fine to shoot standard rounds in it, if it was done properly of course. I have never been one to fireform AI loads with wad or filler, I have always loaded the standard round, fired for practice and then just reload the fired after that to AI levels.

PS
The ?x57 class cartridges benefit well usually from AI'ing. 257 Roberts and 7x57 being the ones that people in the family have had and liked the results of.
