Interesting stuff. I've been considering a .375 caliber round for some time now, and thought I had it narrowed down to the 375 RUM. Mostly due to the lack of a belt - I just don't like them. The big problem I have is lack of available CRF actions to shoot it in. The Taylor cartridge does seem to have merit, though (even if it has a belt...). I've considered a 9.3x64 as well, and performance is right there in that one too. In fact, the 9.3x64 brass I have is made by turning the belt off of 458 WinMag cases and reducing the rim a bit before FL sizing. I'm sure the capacity of the 9.4x64 is near identical to the 375 Taylor when made from the same original brass like this. 375 H&H performance in a standard length action is a very pure and honorable goal, IMHO!! Maybe what I need to do is run the 375 RUM or 404 Jeff brass into a shorter die, and trim to regular 30-06 length to get the desired performance in a regular action. I know it's been done, but I can't recall the name. This would give the best of all worlds: std action length, no belt, easy 375 H&H ballistics (or better). Brass forming aside, building a rifle would be a simple rebarrel, just like the Taylor round. Anyone shooting this one and can help out with a reference and performance data? maxman | ||
