If you have a 358 then why would you want a 338-08..They are not that different, in fact they are as close to duplication as one can get...I'd save that action for something that came to my needs down the line..

The old 300 Savage is probably the perfect whitetail caliber in the thick stuff, although I prefer that little extra I get with a .308, and for no good reason I might add.......

Given that choice I would go with the 338-08. Or the 9.3-08.

I've got a spare 700 SA sitting around. I am thinking of putting together a short-medium range deer/black bear round. I've got it narrowed to the 300 savage (I have a soft spot for the old boy) and the 338-08. I need something or someone to tip my indecision. Already have a 358, in case that matters, and I have no interest in a 308 (too common). TIA...

Why not split the difference and go with an 8mm/08? There should be more 323 bullets available soon with the new 325 WSM coming out.
