I was looking through my reloading manuals last night with the idea for a wildcat running through my head. What I was thinking of is the .300 WSM necked up to 9.3. Does anyone have a balistics program that figures case capacities? I was thinking this might give 9.3X64 Bren. balistics in an easier to obtain case. I know it can be done with one of the belted cases but I want to stay with a beltless one. Thank You | ||

Well it looks like a good idea. I modelled you wildcat as follows Neck length - 0.344" Shoulder angle - 35 deg Shoulder diameter - 0.538" Case length - 2.1" Base to shoulder length - 1.756" Case capacity - 79.8 gr of water The 9.3X64 Brenneke has a case capacity 82 gr. Ballistic data Each cartridge is loaded to 62,000 psi max avg Load data is with the same powder in each case. 106% compression for the wildcat 105% compression for the Brenneke Bullet - 286 gr Wildcat (300 - 9.3 WSM) 65.3 gr of powder Muzzle velocity - 2590 fps Brenneke 67 gr of powder Muzzle velocity - 2614 fps Pretty close. | |||

Someone madea .358 WSM, and was getting close to 2700 fps with a 250g, so that sounds about right. | |||

WyoJoe, There are several good software programs on the market that provide for a cartridge design feature. The one I use is "Load from a Disc" and uses an updated data feature based on the old Powley slipstick. It gives you loading data on different brands of powder whereas the Powley only used IMR powders. So far, it has done everything I have needed or wanted. Ol' John | |||
