I suppose it could be used for launching really small satellites...what was the length of that barrel - 8' or so?

I saw a guy at the range in Canberra once that had (As I was told)a 300winmag necked down to .17. He made his own bullets out of brass, and didn't get to many rounds per barrel.

Problem is with modern powders and safe pressures, you won't push any particular bullet weight or diameter much past the 5000fps mark. In other words, even if you necked the 50bmg down to 17, you would be hard presses to get more than 5000fps.

BINGO! You can't make the projectile go faster than the detonation front of the propellant... those darn Laws of Physics!
