Hey Mark. I know a guy who has a 7mm on the 300 win Mag case, splits the difference between the 7 Rem Mag and the STW. He calls it the "7mm Yukon". I remember reading an article about that wildcat years back called the 7 X 66 Randall, but what the hell, it's his toy and he can call it Polly if he wants to. I like the 339 name tho', just a little more then a 338, not quite as much as a 340. I don't think I'll be down Bozeman way until next winter. I've got the family business to take care of here, then hunting season, a contract I have to fulfill for the LIRR in Ny, and after that I'll be free for the BNSF in Mt. I'm looking forward to it though, I like it there. NIce gun shops and gun shows, and nice folks. - Dan

Dan-good to hear from you.

As you may or maynot recall I'm a 7 Mashburn Super fan and shooter. It's parent case is the 300 Win. Hagle and Page originally used the H&H cut down but then went to the Win when it came out.

It's a fun old round, the dies were expensive as heck but then what about this game is truly cheap!?

From the lil bit of experience I've got with the STW it (the mashburn) will run with it if I want it to.

Gotta run

Deke,

To answer your question the 375/338 is a 375 Chatfield-Taylor, developed by RF Chatfield-Taylor (inventor of the 416 Taylor) in the 70s. It would make a fast handling rifle for the big stuff on a BLR. Simple matter of rebarrelling a 338 WM (currently in the browning line see http://www.browning.com/products/catalog/firearms/detail.asp?value=003B&cat_id=034&type_id=006 ). There has been a bit of discussion about this cartriidge in a tread I started see http://www.accuratereloading.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=703304&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=21&fpart=1 .

For interest I recall many years ago Guns & Ammo magazine (I think) did a project to concert a belted magnum (can't remember the exact calibre) Browning BAR to 458 Win Mag and it was a real, if not awesome, success.

Prior to the ban on semi-auto rifles here in Australia there were several BAR's converted to 458. The first was done for a famous sambar deer hunter called Terry Allen. This was based on a 300 Win mag, but was broken up for scrap along with a lot of other good firearms.

Magnum,

I could not access the Browning or the Post link you listed. I went to Browning North America Website and a 338 is not offered on the BLR.

I am actually wanting to rebore to save $. A 7mmRemMag chamber is identical with the 338 from the base of the neck back so it will work fine.

Deke,

My mistake, it was the 300 Win Mag that caught my eye in the BLR.

The other thread about the 375 Chatfield-Taylor is in this same section
