Hi: The .30 Newton: I shoot this cartridge in my original
.30 Newton Rifle. Its an overlooked cartridge as its
powerful & efficient. For example, my last time at the
rifle range, shooting over a chronograph, I got an
average of 10 shots with 180 gr. Sierra bullets:3,339
fps. With 165 gr. I was approaching 3500 fps & had
one round got to 3501 fps. Brass can be obtained from
a company that makes obsolete brass from parent brass.
(Easiest). I have original .30 Newton Brass (Speer &
Western), have also made .30 Newton brass from the
German 8x68S brass (I can tell how if interested). I
get better velocity with this cartridge than with my
.300 Weatherby. Any more questions or info. please
contact me via this thread. The late Jack Lott (who
developed the .458 Lott) once wrote "The Return of the
.30 Newton", I've been unable to retrieve this article,
but should have some good info. in it.

The .30 Newton was developed from the input of Mr.
Fred Adolf, a fine gunsmith of the day...then modified
a little by Chas Newton & called the .30 Newton...did
not reach its potential as the gunpowders then were
too fast for most efficiency, yet Newton's factory
load was 3,000 fps with a 180 gr. bullet. Now with
slower burning rate powders, this can be improved as
mentioned previously.

Best Regards, Tom
