Read all of the z-hat site! They claim 2470fps with a 300 grain bullet. That is impressive for a 30-06 case. Not sure what the barrel lenght is of the test rifle. Be sure to read, having enough shoulder to properly headspace. Z-hat has found some thing useful for a 30-06 case, making it into a .411!

I've got a 411 Hawk. Bullet diameter is .411". Barnes makes a 300 grain X bullet, Swift makes a run of 350 grain A-Frames from time to time, Woodleigh makes both a 300 and 400 grain bullet, North Fork makes a 300 and 360 grain bullet, and Hawk makes several weights and jacket thickness bullets in that diameter. You'll have to form your own brass. Quality Cartridge makes cylindrical '06 brass that is properly headstamped and is probably the easiest way to start.

Both Fred Zeglin at http://www.z-hat.com and Mike Brady at North Fork Bullets http://www.northforkbullets.com/ have developed load and pressure data for the round.

DPhillips, you have any load data you like to share? I'd love to hear what this thing can do.

Kev,
I haven't had any issues with the rear locking push feed action of the 1895 Winchester in headspacing or extraction. I did have one case failure (confirmed to be bad brass) and extraction of the rear half of the cases was as easy as if nothing had happened. Couldn't say the same about the front half (had to do a chamber cast to remove it).

So, to put some perspective on it, a 165g .308" bullet has a lower SD than a 300g .411" bullet.
North Fork says you can get 2500 fps from it in a bolt action. Over 4150 ft lb at the muzzle from an '06 'cat! They don't list BC, but let's look at some other brands:
Hornady's FN has a BC of .215, which with a 200yd zero puts you 3.19" high at 120yd, down 5.52" at 250yd, and down 14.18" at 300yd, with 1488 ft lb left over!
Even with Woodleigh's SD of .194, you're 3.38" high at 120yd and 5.82" low at 250yd, down 15.17" at 300 with with 1322 ft lb of energy.
The 300g .411" is the NA bullet of choice, in my eyes. Deer, hog, elk, blacky - done.
Move to brownies and you might need a 350, which is just under the SD of a 200g .308 bullet, used by many for bruin.
Things that make you go, "Hmmm."

It is possible to get the 300gr going 2600fps in a bolt gun (all tests with a 25" bbl) and 2500fps in a M95 (60ksi for bolt and 52ksi for M95). It takes some careful powder selection but it can be done. A 360 gr can go 2300fps from a bolt and 2200fps from M95.
