338-06 180 grain starting load
Hello Riflemen-I am getting set to work up a load for some 338 Nosler Accubond 180 grain bullets. I have always used 200/225 grain bullets before and this is just an experiment. I am not asking for a specific load but just some general conversation by anyone who has tried this combination. I have a Win. m-70 338-06AI pre. that this load will be used in. I have most typical powders on hand for this general caliber cartridge and am willing to buy something that is recommended if I do not have it. Thank you and Life is good, Boltaction

The latest Nolser manual has loading information for the 338-06 A-Square with a 180 gr bullet. It may give you a starting point.

You mention both 338-06 and 338-06AI. In either case I've found a powder like 4064, RL15 etc to give me the highest velocity.

For a 338-06AI and Accurate 4064 between 56 and 61 grains. IMR6064 will be a couple grains less and the 338-06 would be a could grains below for both. RL15 56-60.5 for the AI and 54-58.

These use 63,000psi as max.

As usual just my $.02

I use R15 in my 338/06 with the 180's.

Hello Riflemen-I don't take your answer as rude at all Jefeosso. I'm just getting some experienced opinions here. I will follow good reloading policy for starting loads and carefully work up some. I'm not after maximum velocity or pushing pressure to anywhere near maximum capacity. since I have not used this particular bullet I feel better getting some broad information on what to expect. thanks to all of you for the help and I will get back here when I have some good data on this load in my rifle.
