I've read a few blurbs here and there on this forum and a few others about wildcats based on either the 45-70 or the 450 Marlin. It seems that there have been several people with this same idea, but few to none to see it through completion. The old .38-56 Improved seems to be about the only thing out there with a bit of history behind it that fits the bill. Anyone out there with tid bits of information on actual experiences with something like this, or even discussions with a gunsmith? I'd like to see something like this in an 1895. It would be a step up from the .375 Win, or at least one would think so. Input? Definitely not looking to put my name on a round, far from it. I'd just like to see what something like this would do. beer

For the effort --

I'd personally rather use the 348 case than the

45-70.(the 450 would be my 2nd choice of the 3)

Back to the 45-70 case the 33WCF has been

necked up to .375 in the past, though I do not

recall the name/label attached to it.

(The .375 Express has been used by Waters with

the .444 version and by Payne with one of

the .348 versions)

What platform are you considering--bolt, lever

--etc?

I figured for ease of conversion, I'd use a Marlin 1895 platform.

Ralph Payne's .375 Express(Rimmed Version)

would work--

or a .375/416 Alaskan--

or form your own, say a 375 necked up 348,

(less sharp shoulder)

Or form a 45-70 version say a .375/416 Barnes.

(less powder )

0r a .450 Marlin version.
