I would think that if anyone wanted a 338-308 that they would entertain the idea of a 338-284, it would feed in the same rifle and give you a good deal more velocity..I made one on a 99EG Savage and it was cute if nothing else, also had a 30-284 on a 99F and it was cute also...but after a number of years I realized wildcats were toys for boys, very costly toys with 0 resale value.

The article where the .338-08 is mentioned and where a few loads for it are listed, was written by Wayne van Zwoll, and titled "The Mighty .33 Magnums". The article appeared in the August 2000 issue of Rifle Shooter. I imagine you should be able to get a copy of the article from Mr. van Zwoll, or perhaps from Petersen's Rifle Shooter.

One of the handloads with a 200-grain Hornady and Accurate 2015 produced 2,670 fps. The rifle he used bolongs to Ken Nagel's (I have no idea who he is). I imagine that a 185-grain XXX comes out the barrel much faster.

Why not split the difference and go with an 8mm/08? There should be more 323 bullets available soon with the new 325 WSM coming out.

Why not just make it a 325 WSM?
