running vv560 with 140 bergers, I worked up to almost 67grs and called it good enough. That may be over max for you dependng on how yours is throated, and other factors. Mine is throated long to take advantage of using a long action.

Houston we have a problem, I talked to the smith today we had a little communication problem, he's making me 6.5 Rum. Holy crap this is a whole other animal.

He told me it should push a 140 in the 3300-3500fps range if the slug stays together

Yes I do it just said on the build reciept
1 6.5x300 rechamber+headspace. It was to my understanding it was a wm, not a rum. He told me at first if I have the right sized bolt. I was wondering what he meant. Well I just didnt put it together in my head. I dont think he will be able to do it. I have to go see him again in a couple days to iron everything out.

downrange IF you go ahead with this idea and stick to the original barrel, it MAY last 1000 rounds.

The best 6.5 ever made was/is the 6.5x55. If you want something faster for whatever reason, the 6.5/284 is an excellent cartridge (available off the shelf in tack driving Savages).

The gunsmith is on an ego trip and you are his naive patsy. If you don't even know if your action has a RUM or belted magnum boltface ..... well.

There is only RUM cartridge that can be defended as it's a ballistic twin to the well proven 338 Lapua and costs a lot less, the 338 RUM. So you smith "thinks" you may see 3300 with a 140 ?
My 338 RUM gets 3000 with a 300 THREE HUNDRED gr Berger. I'd guess mine has a lot more downrange energy.

99% of wildcats, do nothing any number an off the shelf cartridges cannot and your resale value is zip. (In full disclosure I own one, 22-06, and even published a book on them)

You described it well "holy crap", but if you want one, get one as I've never seen an armored car following a hearse.

The best RUM:

I know for one thing my post 64 model 70 action will not fit a rum without mods. Its a belted cartridge , now its a 264 win mag that needs some attention.

Unless you've fried the barrel what "attention" could a 264 WM need ? If you have, barrels are cheap and the 264 is a fine cartridge with today's super bullets. Put 140 TSXs in it and it will kill anything in the lower 48. Have a friend with a bone stock original "Westerner" that has killed two Elk every year since new, many Mulies, several Moose and an excellent full curl Big Horn last year. Might get shot 10 times per year and still has original Redfield "tombstone" 3-9. Still will shot 1.5" groups and still kills everything with one shot.
It's the "nut behind the bolt" that makes the hunt.

back up about 50 years. You are reinventing the 6.5-300 WWH. Weatherby-Wright-Hoyer. The Original 1000 Yard Pennsylvania Benchrest Club. Near Mifflinsburg, PA.

Down range who is your smith? Is he in ND? I had a 6.5 STW for a while liked it but had trouble finding bullets that would stay together at the time. I had Joel Ackerman in Dickinson rebarrel to 270 WBY and it shoots 1/2 groups all day long with IMR 7828 and a 130 nos accubond.

He is from low area in mn, the project was scrapped, and rebarreled to a 264. I didn't like what it would have been. There ws a question how did it need attention. The throat was so long, I couldn't load a round long enought to touch it, I used the 140 bergers in my oal tool and the bullet was out of the case. All fine now tho a new kreiger stick on it and its good to go again.

I have a 6.5x300 win ,It will do what winchester claimed the 264 would do.That makes it one hell of a round. Once load development was done the barrel will last my lifetime.
