Looking for something based on 505Gibbs straight brass similar to the length of 30-06 empty. Snipetac is the improved Cheytac and both are based on 505Gibbs brass. Problem is COAL with heavy for caliber bullets is way too long for the mag box of the action I am working with-Montana PH.

Anyone know of anything close?

The PH is 9.875 long (per Montana). Most other actions for CT-based cartridges are close to the same length - see the Action/Receiver Matrix at the top of this page (http://www.elr-resources.com/page3.html). I know of no action that will shoot the seriously long projectiles when loading from a magazine.

IMHO, the amount of work to shorten and form cases to the size you "may" want (COAL-wise), plus the cost of the associated dies and one-off pieces, makes a repeater based on the PH questionable.

As you may know, the Barker Machine "Overwatch" action is available in both single shot and repeater - and VERY reasonably priced compared to alternatives for CT-based cartridges. John also offers a bolt face for that action that will support Dave Viers' 375 VM2.

I suggest you go single shot and open up your "standard" cartridge options - even up to the VM2 (which, as of now, must be run single shot).

Your other "standard" cartridge option is to go to a 50 BMG size receiver - and the associated huge cost and bulk (unless you go single shot and shell holder action - separate tab in the noted matrix).

FYI, by "standard" I mean cartridges where there are current, reliable, pre-formed (or easily fire formed) brass sources - and associated dies.

Enjoy!

Thanks ELR.............But that would totally negate the point of creating Wildcat ctgs. Dies are cheap. If everyone with a predicament such as mine had simply resorted to using what was readily available wildcats wouldn't exist!

I am going to have fun going through the process of development if there is nothing out there and if all else fails build a monster bore on the action. I think of monster bore as over .550 Big Grin!
