I heard about this cartridge recently, but can find absolutely no information on it. Does anybody have some info they can share? From what I've gathered, it is a .290" bullet, but what is the parent cartridge? Has anybody built a gun a gun for this cartridge? If so, who and where are they located?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Call Clymer--they may have a print of the reamer/chamber. I recall making a 290 Askins reamer for Joe Dubiel in the early 80s. Also made a swaging die reamer to reduce 30-cal bullets to .299"/.298". Don't remember the parent case, but it could have been 8mm Rem Mag or 308 Norma.

Seems like I remember old cheerless charlie Askins doing this for a lark, he said that was the only caliber space left to work with. he did the whole shebang up for an article, I dont remember the parent case either.

I remember an article back around the mid 80's about what would be the "perfect caliber" round. It would fall between 7mm and 30cal and if I remember correctly the bullet weight was like 178grains or something like that. Even in my youth the article sounded like something they came up with to fill up a magazine one month. Is this possbily where this came from. I'll bet somewhere I still have that magazine. I didn't remember it being Col. Askins but someone like Claire Rees or someone like that it GUNS mag. ?????
