I am having a 6.5mm remington ultra mag made up and i will need some load info, if anyone has any please let me know. I like the 6.5's. The 264 win mag and the 6.5 wsm have both been great and are very accurate. I just hope the 6.5 rum will be too. I know it's good bit overbore but i will only be using it for deer hunting, so it want be shot much more than 10 times a year after start up. Thanks for your help gunsmile

My 243 RUM does about 3900 fps with 105g A-Max, with a 28" bbl. Yes, overbore, but a lot of fun!

Thanks for the reply Bwana-be. My gun will have a 29" tube. What powder are you using? and have you had any problems with hang firing or any problems at all? Thanks

You might try some 6.5 STW data for a starting point or the 264 THOR data for a start. There max should be close to a start point for it.

A smithy bud of mine built a 25 Rum, loaded it with R25 and 115 grain partitions and went hunting. A little to much of a good thing for me. But hey, I still think it has cool factor and should be a rocket. Maybe try Ramshot Magnum, R25 or H1000. I'd like to see what your 6.5 would do with 125 partitions. 3500, 3600, more? Holy crap!

RogueSix thanks for the reply. If you could get some specific load data from you bud i would be very thankful. I should have the gun back in a week or two,it's at hart barrels now. I am worried about hang-firing. I read some where that the 6.5 rum with Rl 25 would do that. As far as speed goes, if everything works out, i should get above 3700 with barnes 120xlc. I have a 264win mag i now get 3500 with the same bullet and it only has a 25" tube the 6.5 will have a 29" tube. I also have a 6.5wsm that will shoot the 120xlc at 3450 and is extremely accurate. Once again thanks for any help you could send my way Smiler

rifleshooter, Lazzeroni had a 6.5 based on the 404 Jeffery. My point is try his website or email his company for some load referances. You can also find out about hang fires, etc.
Make sure your barrel gets lapped before shooting. If you start with a smooth bore ( no roughness from the cutting), hopefully, you can squeeze a few extra rounds before the erosion takes over.

I know the 6.5 is mighty overbore on the RUM case but I would have thought velocities well over 3700 with the 120 would be achievable. Out of my 25 inch BRNO 602 300RUM I get 4100fps with the 125gr BT over 112grs of ar2213sc. And 3800fps with the 150gr BT. And with the 55gr BT and sabot I get 5150fps.

I have had the rifle back a few weeks now and have got an excellent load worked up. I am using 106g WC 872 and am getting 3850 with the 120 barnes xlc. You will just about always get a higher velocity with a bigger bore and same weight bullet than a smaller bore. But the higher bc factor of the smaller bore will past the faster big bore at long range.

The gun has been far more accurate than i could have hoped for. If i do my part it will shoot 5 under a nickel at 100yards. I haven't had a chace to shoot it at longer yards yet, its been hot here.

Roll EyesThere is a lot of 5010 and 5020 powder around at really reasonable prices. The 5010 might just be perfect and the 5020 would lend itself nicely to under max. loadings. It sure wouldn't break the bank to try them. beerroger

120 XLC at 3850?! Incredible. Even I almost caught myself wondering "why."

yes that is incredible! I love it. Should be able to set the scope about 1-1/2" high at 100 and only be about 4-5" low at 400 yards.

The barrel is a 6 groove 12 twist and is 29" long. It also shoots US 869 well, but the WC 872 is a tad bit slower and seems to be cooler burning. It took less than 20 rounds to get a good load and since it will only be used for big game hunting it should last a life time. clap

The Hangfires you are talking about with RL25 are probly cause by powder Bridging which occurs in high volume small caliber(under 270cal) cases when stick powderlike RL25 is used. Ball powder is the solution I use Ramshot Magnum in my 257 STW. I get 4000 fps with the 100gr TSX. This load averages under .5" @ 100 yd.

Dr. B you may be having good results but in some of my large capacity wild cats wcc 846 and wcc844 are notorious hang fire performers( Ball Powders, where as 5010 ,extruded, no problem). Can't say I understand all that I know but these are the facts. hammeringroger
