pyle12925-6.5 Remington Mag
Anyone have any (ballistics) info or links to info for the 25-6.5 Remington Mag? I can't seem to find anything.

Vol II of Ackley's Handbook shows the 6/350 and the .25/350 but doesn't list any loads for the 25 caliber. He says it is overbore and produces ballistics similar to the 25-06. So I would think that starting loads can be taken from 25-06 data and work up from there.
Remember, when Ackley's books were written there was no such cartridge as the 6.5 Rem Mag, only the 350 Rem Mag. But all of his comments re the 350 would apply equally to the 6.5.

BohicaDear Pyle and Cheechako,
I tried this one out back in about 1979 or so. I had a 257 WBY barrel that had a problem at the very end of the breech so I cut it off and screwed it onto a Mex and chambered to the 6.5 RM necked down to .25. [Reamer was by Clymer.--a 6.5 RM redone] I was not impressed as it seems like I encountered pressure problems long before I thought and abondoned the project. The idea was to make a short actioned 257 WBY [equivalent] light rifle. Oh Well HUH? Lots of $ and no results.

CheechakoMaybe old man Ackley knew what he was talking about.

It seems that most of the cartridges he dismissed 40 years ago really were big duds.

DannyHHey Pyle
You might consider 6.5-300wsm. I built one awhile back and its pretty impressive. H-4350 @57.0 WITH 100Gr. Hornady's shoots vert tight groups doing 3420 fps. With 120's and 55.0 its does over 3230avg.My shooting spot at my cabin is 9500 elevation. Thats with a 23" barrel

jeffeossothe SAME capacity as a 25-06 or a 25-284
the 257 JLS (wsm) is the same case capacity as a 257x300WIN, and close enough to a 257 weatherby to not matter.
in short, there's nothing to gain over the other, 25x6.5, 25-06, or 25x284, to be worth arguing over, unless one WANTS a short action.
