YoungBuck:

Randy Fritz of Tarhunt Custom Rifles necked down the 45-70 all the way to 6mm in various bore sizes. He won the Pa. State Hunter Rifle benchrest championship with the 6mm Fireplug which was a shortened and necked down to 6mm 45-70. I think he still has the reamers in the various bore sizes. If I recall correctly most of the cases will be 45 gr of water in capacity. That's the same as the 30-30. Because of the amount of brass manipulation and the large bolt face required in bolt guns he eventually gave up on the case. www.tarhunt.com

If you're going to rebarrel that Ruger why do you need a cartridge based on the 45-70 And besides, a true wildcat is something that nobody else has so why not design your own? Decide what bullet you want to shoot, for what application (hunting, target etc), how fast you want to shoot it, and what brass you want to use and go from there. Only problem is that someone else has probably already tried it so ask your gunsmith what reamers he has on hand that meet the above criteria. Might just be something in his drawer that will turn you on.

Good Luck

I agree with Ray. Why not find a wildcat that trips your trigger and then buy the Ruger chambered in something that makes the easiest conversion. For example if you're going to play with a 264 wildcat get the the #1 all ready barreled in 260 and then get the barrel rechambered. Or else get the one with the right cartridge headsize so that you don't have to change the extractor and such.
