Earlier this evening, a friend that works in a gunshop called and asked if I ever heard of a 6.5 Cheetah rifle cartridge. He had a customer tell him about a rifle he obtained, the customer has no ammunition for this rifle and needed to know several things - 1) What is the parent case? 2) Where is reloading data for this cartridge? 3) What would be a good bullet weight for general shooting (at a shooting range)? Preferred powder ? Thanks for any information on this cartridge - KMule

If memory serves, this was an early version of what is now a 260 Remington improved. So base case would be the 308 Win. I'll have a look in some of my old books, something should be in there. - Dan

Jim Carmichel and Fred Huntington (that's where the to caps in CHeetah come from) made up a .22 CHeetah which was a necked down .308 case version with small rifle primer. Remington once made Rem BR cases, Sako as well but I think both discontinued). The SR primer should improve inner ballistics, but was reported to cause misfires especially in cold weather. A .243 CHeetah is most probably an opened up (probably shot out?) .22 CHeetah. Vernon
