As to setting the barrel back somewhere between $125-175 would be a ball park. Same cost as installing the barrel in the first place plus a little extra to set it back. Don't remember if you said the action but based on the shoulder location looks like you are looking at more than a thread. How would the taper fit in the stock? Have you checked the throat? If everything else was cut too deep was the throat as well? If you have the neck length in the chamber no reason not to use 270 brass. Send me an email and I'll send you that load data.

In the picture posted the shoulder angle looks a bit shy of the 35 degree that Rocky used. It also appears to be the same body taper as the 06. Of course I cant measure but just looking at the photo it sure looks that way. This photo looks like it might very well be just a very deep chambered 06 that someone is passing off as a genuine Gibbs. I have had a 240 Gibbs for quite a few years and all of the Gibbs chambers had very little taper on the body. Definately enough that its noticable when set next to a standard 06.

Ray, It was SUPPOSED to be 6.5x06....I think the assessment that the reamer was overdone is the answer as you are correct, the shoulder angle and body taper are not different than the 06 case. (Body might have a bit less taper but I think it's because of the initial problem...)
