I just got a hold of my next donner action. I am gonna barrel it up in iether .22-284 or 6mm-284 (those are the reamers I have on hand) which caliber do you think for target/varmint/longer range/ screwwing around. I am afraid the 22 would burn barrels fast. the 6mm would probalby buck wind better, the 22 are cheaper, what twist arrrrrrrggghhh so many decisions

SUNTIET, BEING A FAN OF BOTH THE 22, AND THE 6MM ROUNDS I WOULD HAVE TO GO FOR THE 22. BEING ABLE TO SHOOT THE HEAVIER GRAIN 224S(60 GRAIN AND ABOVE) WILL INCREASE YOUR B.C. WHICH WILL GIVE YOU DOWN RANGE ACCURACY AS OPPOSED TO THE 6MM B.C.(IN THEORY, AS MY FAVORITE ROUND IS THE 240 WEATHERBY IN 75 GRAIN V-MAX) BUT MY NEXT PROJECT IS A HIGH VELOCITY224 CALIBER(THE 224 PLUMMER, IN WHICH I AM CURRENTLY INVESTIGATING THE POSSIBILITIIES) THAT WILL ALSO SHOOT THE 75 GRAIN V-MAX( IN WHICH ONCE THIS IS COMPLETE I WILL HAVE A MORE FACT INFLUENCED OPINION. HA HA.) AS FAR AS BEING A BARREL BURNER, THE 224 AND THE 6MM SHOULD GIVE YOU NO PROBLEMS as long as you do not engage in extended shooting sessions without letting the barrel cool, and proper cleaning techniches. either caliber would be an awsome varmit, etc cartridge. GOOD LUCK TO YOU

in 6 mm 6/284 is more flexible and allow you to reach long range with 105/107 gr match bullet some reamer in 284 wilcat have a broad base ( original 284 WIN SAAMI base ) best is the reground to tight base to allow to hold hight pressure , a bolt action is not a lever action rifle . 22/284 is over bore and better to use a 22/6 REM or a 224 Clark less powder and closeley same velocity good shooting DAN TEC

I'd definitely go with the 6mm. You can load down to 55 grain bullets if you want with the 6mm, so I really don't see a need for the .22-284. Twist is easy - 1 in 10".
