Hey guys

If you want to play around with wildcatting designs at home without entering the workshop. Is there a CAD software package that you can put on your PC, gives you case drawings and even in 3D and basic specs, and allows you to also modify and play around with.

I put a few specs into the "ammoguide" cartridge creator thinking it was a fun feature for USERs, but it kept the drawings and specs and didn't give me the drawing.

I've heard you guys talking about a few different ones but what is a good one I could use

regards
S&F

I've been using QuickDESIGN about a month now, it has most of the CIP and SAAMI cartridge designs preloaded and you can alter as you see fit and save to your specifications. Here is the US link:

No idea if they have an Australia representative or not. Product is manufactured in Germany.

I like QuickDesign. It's great because it interoperates with Quickload to estimate best loads/pressures with the cartridges you design. I also like RCBS.load. It has a cartridge design feature that's easy to use, too. It also includes lots of load data, but it's not as good for load estimating as QuickLoad.

I find RCBS.load is a little easier to draw/modify cartridges with. It also has some other neat graphs & info (barrel twist rate calculators, old wildcat info from Speer 2 & 3 manuals, ballistic calculator).

QuickDesign has a more complete listing of cartridges. The pressure and load estimation you can get if you buy QuickLoad too is really neat. And if you buy QuickTarget, it gives you the ballistic calculations. The drawings in QuickDesign are full reamer drawings (whereas the RCBS.load drawings are more basic dimensioning).

Both programs are great. Both offer key info on brass thickness, web height, etc.

Hope this helps,
Steve

Looks like QuickLOAD and QuickTARGET are combined in the same CD-Rom, here's a link to Neco's website:

I do notice within the descriptions of the products that there are vendor websites in Germany, England, and Czech Republic besides the USA.

Go back there, put in your data again and then capture the screen. I use Howie's Funware (just search it) to grab screens. Not a fancy, feature-laden tool, but a free download and very easy to use.

Are you a member at ammoguide? I am. It's a great site. Less than $20 a year. I just re-upped for another year...
