Cedarmtmike7.62x39 wild cats?
I know that this sounds stupid, but I noticed that Remington is offering the 799 in 7.62x39. The cartridge, gun combo would be interesting, but what about an improved 35/7.62x39? A 357x39 improved? Probably silly, but could be a fun project.
Not silly at all. I think its been done though. Feed it Lapua brass and a quality 35cal cast pill and it might make a pretty reasonable benchrest cast bullet shooter with application to hunting small to medium sized game.
Cheers...

CheechakoCon is correct. There are several wildcats based on the Soviet case. After all, the 6PPC is one of them.
There is no reason a wildcat on that case would not shoot. The secret is in getting good brass, a good barrel and good bullets.

butchlambertI have a 270x39AI which is a 270PPC. A great cartridge for a young persons first deer rifle. It is very accurate.

I think it was G&A that did an article on a mini 14 rebored to 35/39 imp. They got a 35 rem semi that could shoot spitzers.
I have a 6.5x39 imp. About like factory level 250 sav, my barrel length is only 16 1/2" though.

dedsevenA version of this cartridge can be made on the cheap by running a 35 Remington reamer in short. An overall chamber length of about 1.510â€seems about right. As usual, the cases shorten up a bit during fire forming. Remington small primer pocket cases averaged about 1.490¨ in length after fire forming. You can just cut off readily available 35 Remington reloading dies to the correct length and you are up and running without much expense. A CZ 527 carbine originally in 7.62x39mm makes a slick little woods rifle when rebored and chambered this way. The customer who came up with the idea just reported that he has achieved 1950 fps with 200 grain bullets during his early load development. And this is with a 17.5 inch barrel.

johnnyrebI have a CZ527 in 6.5 Grendel, which is essentially a 6.5 PPC.

Idaho Sharpshooterthere's a guy at the indoor range that shoots a 338x39 in an AR with a silencer and select-fire.
Sort-of a big brother to the 300 Whisper. Very accurate at 25yds. He's some kind of private bodyguard dude here and abroad. It's a cool cartridge for that kind of stuff.

KabluewyYou guys got my interest with this discussion because I just bought one of the mini-mauser actions set up for the 7.62x39. I had been looking for one for a long time, and I had to pay dearly for it. Many years ago, as I remember Sako made a little action with the correct bolt face, and I missed out on that one.
Anyway, what I had planned for it is a wildcat of sorts, because it will be a handloading chamber/bore only.
I noticed that Pac Nor shows the reamer available - 7.62x39 Laupa. It's using the .308 grove rather than the Russian of .311. Aparantly it anticipates using Lapua brass. I know the Redding 7.62x39 dies come with two expander balls - one for .308 bullets, and a second for .311 bullets.
Seems to me it would be fun to mess with, and may be usable up to deer. I was thinking of maybe a 14" twist .308 barrel, and bullets up to 150 gr, but probably 125 - 130 gr. I think it will get about 2300 fps with the 130 gr bullets, maybe slightly faster.
