Late Sunday eveng I purchased an old Dugat Custom Rifle chambered in 7mm Ashurst Mag. Now to the problem, it only came with 30 Cases and the reload data, so I need to purchase a set of dies and learn how to resize the neck of 300 weatherby brass to 7mm so I can fire form the sholder. Any insight would be helpful.

Thanks,
Casey

Would it be possible to set the barrel back two threads and ream a 7mm STW chamber? Relatively easy to relad for in the long run.

I actually thought about that today, but after posting this I found a box of 7mm STW and measured it out, the only difference I found was the angle of the shoulder, so I think I'm just going to use STW Brass and see if a set of custom reloading dies can reform the shoulder. If it wasn't a gun of the King Ranch I would rechamber it.

Thanks,
Casey

I'd give CH4D a call and talk to Dave or Brian. They'll be able to fix you up with dies and probably help you out with brass forming.

Good luck, and FWIW, I've never heard of a 7mm Ashurst Mag,
pretty obscure wildcat ya got there.

One of the old Wildcat Handbooks has great information about Ashurst's rounds, the 7mm Ashurst is basically a 7mm STW with an Ackley Style shoulder. I was given a box of ammo to go with it so tomorrow AM I'm going to see how it shoots. Hopefully I can get a set of dies ordered for it sometime next week. The load data that came with the gun shows 3900 fps with a 120 gr, I ant wait to see how it actually preforms!

Thanks for the help!

What's the headstamp on the brass that came with the rifle?

If you send a couple fired cases to C4HD, they will can make a set of dies to match the brass and it is not too expensive.

I got off the phone with Ben at Hornady yesterday, as soon as I get a chance to cast the chamber and send it off he they are going to make me a set along with a die to go from 300 H&H down to 7mm.

Thanks everyone for your input!

Well I took the 7mm to the ranch and smoked a Spike at a little over 700 yards away, it did a backflip over some brush. Needless to say, I am absolutely impressed with the round!
