.416 bullets and bullet molds are easier to find the .412 or .414 and a whole lot less expensive.
I've got two Winchester 95s so it would not be major job to put a .416 barrel on the plain jane rifle. The 30-06 case most likely would not handle being necked up to 30-06 so is there a cartridge case that would be a larger rimless head size, with reasonable cost and availability, then the 30-06 to neck up to .416?
The idea just crossed my mind, a very short trip, that having two identical rounds with one being .412 and the other being .416 bullet size, things could get real exciting real fast.

I think you're going to come up short in this quest, but if it makes you feel any better 405 bullets are becoming more prevalent. Woodleigh has made bullets for it for a long time, and with the advent of the new 95's in 405 (.411), Hornady now makes a RNFP and a PSP for the 405. Barnes also makes an X-bullet for the 405. Not sure what's out there for the 405 in the way of molds and such, but I know they exist.

Z-Hat offers a .411 based on the .30-06. SSK offers a .416 on the -06 case. Forming such cases is easier using the cylindrical -06 brass from Huntington's.

There is enough taper in the .405 to open it up a smidge for .416 bullets.

The 9.3x74R brass has more sources than the .405. It could be trimmed to 2.5" or so and opened up to .416 without much trouble.

If the magazine on the 95 Win. can take it, one of the wildcats on the larger cases, such as the .404 might work for you. Even if it fits, the action might not like the extra breech thrust; it is a rear locking job.

Given the current supply of .411 bullets for the .405, I don't think it's yet worth the trouble.

I can definitely recommend the 300 gr. Barnes-X .411" bullet for the .405-Winnie. Reduced my 5-shot 100 yard groups from about 3+" to just under an inch, in a .405-Win on a Springfield '03 action.

For what it's worth, I doubt that there would be much of a problem inadvertently shooting .416" bullets through a .412" bore...At least, as long as the loads are not BttW hot. For about 5 years I quite commonly shot .3146" bullets through a .308" groove diameter bore with no problems...as a matter of fact, I bumped the bullets to that diameter because in that particular .30x1-5/8" rifle that is what was most accurate.

Thanks for the info.
Right now I'm working with a custom mold throwing a 350 grain bullet, that seems to have great prospects.
I'll give the jacketed bullets a turn later this summer.

arky,
I don't know if Mike has any left or not, but North Fork made a run of 360 grain .411" bullets a few weeks ago. They may be a bit long for the .405 M95, but I don't know for sure.
