Anyone have one of these? any experiences... Evidently a 19 caliber on a 221 fireball case.... Looks as an interesting alternative to a 20/221.. for grins and giggles... Thanks in advance... cheers seafire  | ||

seafire, I believe the 19 Calhoon is based on an improved Hornet case and the 19 Badger is based on a 30 carbine case. The 30 carbine case is cheap and straight walled allowing easy forming to a bottle necked case. I talked to Mr. Calhoon and he decided against the 221 fireball because it was to close to the 223 case. Pulled the following from the calhoon site: The new 19 BADGER is a result of field testing the 19 Calhoon (Hornet) and 19-223. Our minimizing approach to varminting, as John Anderson of Varmint Hunter Magazine calls it, resulted in this new, finely tuned, varmint cartridge. The 19 BADGER is a compact, powerful cartridge with a mere overall 1.3" length, built on a strong rimless case. The 19 BADGER maintains a powder capacity of 18 grains in a column of less than 1 inch. Even with a 25% increase in powder capacity over the "sweet shooting" little 19 Calhoon (Hornet), the 19 BADGER has the same minimal recoil that is so critical to good varminting, allowing you to see your hit time after time. The 19 BADGER provides a comfortable 300 yard range and velocities of 3750 with a 27gr bullet and 3550 with the 32gr. I think the badger would be great for a small quiet round. Still dinging around with that.... I still like the idea of the 218 Bee case over the 30 Carbine..... Was debating on the 19 bore on a 218 case, or the 20 bore on a 218 case.... I may have to do some cross countryin' myself on this one..... The cost of the reamers would be the deciding factor if that is what I am looking at doing... The 20 on a 218 case is already readily available thru one source I am aware of for a Savage 12 BVSS.... cheers seafire | |||

Seafire, I think the 218 Bee case would work. What vel was obtained? I like the Carbine case, ease of forming brass and cheap price @11 per 100. The vel is good w/27gr bullet@3700 fps. Maybe the 218 case would work in my Martini action better. I'll give that some thought. | |||

On paper, the 19 Badger looks like the ideal gopher getter. It may cost me $ to find out. Or I could just keep shooting a .223, 22LR, and 17HMR. | |||
