Am about to rechamber for .17x28mm from the 5.7x28mm FN parent case. Had sorry luck getting what I feel is enough brass ahead of time. I'm an all day prairie dogger and don't like to run out of ammo just when it's getting to be good shooting. For yrs I fought a .222mag with only 100 cases. But, then we had a ranch and that was a good excuse to make a cold beer run and load up 100 rnds while there. No ranch now and it's miles to the p/d towns. 100 just ain't near enough ammo. Many a day I've loaded and shot over 400, and a few days with a bucket full have burned 700 .223's up out there. What do you guys feel is enough brass to justify using a certain case for such use? I've got around 250 near as I can figure without counting them. Sure would like to get around 2000 to start with. I usually reload til the brass fails regardless how many times it's been reloaded. Will pick the gun up Tuesday, so need to either do the job or get off the pot. Am also looking at a near copy of the same round using Hornet brass instead. I'm not one to dwell on something if it won't work out so well for a tiny bit of powder. The Hornet case wouldn't be much different and there's tons of Hornet brass plumb cheap. It's just that I like the heavier case and rimless head better. The Hornet based round I'm considering in called the .17 Mink. So far I haven't been able to get a reamer drawing. Can anyone e/mail one?? Thanks much, George "Gun Control is NOT about Guns' "It's about Control!!" Join the NRA today!" LM: NRA, DAV, George L. Dwight

George Haven't you just answered your own question?? "a few days with a bucket full have burned up 700,223's". If its miles to the dog towns you don't want to run out so you need a min of 700.

they will likely come in case lots of 1000, so just buy two. Take no chances of brass being "out of stock, back-orderd, temporarily unavailable", etc. Just look at the big bore forum and the sudden dramatic shortage of a standard like the 375 H&H. Rich
