Does anybody have any new reloading data for this cartridge? What I have is from "Big Bore Rifles & Cartridges" by wolfe. It is getting 15 years old, and claimed 2300 with a 270grs bullet.

What do you say? I know a 9,3x62 will do 2500 with same bullet weight....(60 grs of Norma 202)

The closest case pre-loaded in Quickload is the 375 Hawk/Scoville.

Not exactly the same case but pretty close. Quickload says 80.0 gr of water to overflow versus 74.39 for the standard 375 Whelen and 78.0 for the 9.3 x 62.

63.0 gr of BL-C2 and the Hornady 270 gr spire point gives 2550 from a 22" barrel in the Scoville.

MAP for the Scoville is 58,740 and MAP for the 9.3 is only 56,565 so that account for some of the difference, the rest is case capacity and cross-sectional bore area.

Yea, thanks, Tigger!

From Donnelly's big green book I find that the Whelen Imp. has a case cap. of 75,79 against the '62 wich has 74,87. The '62 has shorter shoulder, so by all it should be pretty much the same. With its larger diameter, the Whelen Imp. should give higher velosity with same weight, alas, 2500 with 270 grs bullet should be easy in the .375 Whelen Improoved, 2600 in a good 24" barrel not impossible.

With a 24" barrel, the 375Hawk cartridge, with 270 gr will hit 2550+ with RE15, VV 140, and 4320, with a slight edge going to 4320 (2575fps). All pressures kept under 60K. If one didn't mind Weatherby pressures, 2600 in a 24" would be possible. 2600 in a 22" would be a pretty hot load (~67K+)

The 375H will drive the 375-225 Hornaday to 2800 with Benchmark. The 235 Speer will come close to 2750, also with Benchmark. 250s can crowd 2700fps and 300s can make 2400fps.

If I manually input 75.79 grs in the 375 Scovile run I have to drop the load to 60.3 gr BL-C2 to stay under max but still get 2514 fps in a 22" barrel, FWTW.

56.5 H4895 under a 260g Accubond gets me in the 2550 range with great accuracy and no pressure signs. Neat little round. Check out the Z-hat site for 375 Hawk/Scoville data, start a little low and work up, they're damned close. I just like the simplicity and availability of using 06 brass. BTW, Barnes just came out with 235g TSX's which seem made to order for this round and should get you to 2700 easily--THAT sounds about perfect.

While I haven't shot the 270's for speed, my friend (gunsmith) gets 2,550 with his 375 Scovill.

I get 2800 fps with 235's out of my gun and very flat shooting out to 400 yds. Reloading info on Z-Hat.com .

I use 35 Whelen brass to make mine up.
