This was posted on cast bullets and I thought there might be some interest in wild cats. At the range this week I was shooting my 9X41.This is a 06 derivetive 1.625" case length 26 1/2degree shoulder and a 1 caliber neck length. There are four in the family the 7mm, the 7.62mm, the 9mm and the .375.All barrel lengths are 16.5" I haven't had much experience with lead bullets but I thought I'd see what this rifle would do. I used 29gr. of 680 for all weights of lead gas checked bullets. All were crimped. The distance was 50 yards. The 210 gr. bullet's velocity varied from 2000fps to 2030 fps and had a 1 1/2" group. 250gr bullet velocity varied from1809fps to 1906fps. again a 1 1/2" group 260gr. Bator bullet 1862 to 1902 fps.5 touch 2 were an inch out. 297gr. bullet first two touched than next three started to walk . 1" group This was a surprise; the velocity varied between 1846 fps. and 1902fps.This is at an energy level almost equal to a 30-06 from a 16.5" barrel!!The recoil was not pleasant. Also the highest velocity of each weight ,if you'll notice, only varied 128fps from one weight to another. This seems extrordinary to me but than again I have only limited experience with lead bullets. Any comments???????? roger | ||
