Howdy Guys, Anyone shooting the 5.6x57? I am thinking about rechambering one of my 22-250. Ballistics show that it is about 100fps faster than the 220 swift. Any info will be very helpful.

Thanks
Bill

wmwise,
I too have been interested in this caliber for some time and have thought about getting one or having one built. I haven't gotten to it yet...but it is on my list. I posted a question on the Small Caliber section about a month ago requesting input from users of this cartridge. I got alot of helpful information from people who had used this cartridge. Some of it was good and some of it was bad. Most of the problems that were mentioned were about the cartridges extra thick neck (for the use of .22 rimfire adapter units). Many have had problems with the neck sealing when the round was fired. I have not tried the caliber yet, but because I love European metric cartridges, this will eventually need to remedied. The thread is not too far back and you should be able to find it easily. Please let me know if you do try the conversion of the 22-250, as I would like to hear how it goes. Good luck with the project (it sounds like a fun one).

The 5,6x57 is one of those cartridges which look impressive on paper. Not in reality though. Same is even more true for the more powerful 5,6x61 SEvH, R.I.P.

Of course, this round is NOT a wildcat, but an RWS factory offeering - if you are interested in using readily available American brass, build one of the rounds based on a necked-down 6mm Rem. or 7X57mm---- like the .22 Newton or a version thereof. My understanding is that the RWS 5.6X57mm has "un-naturally thick" case neck walls, so one cannot use American cases to form the brass.

Hornady's 3rd Edition loading manual has loading data for the 5.6X57mm RWS.....
