You think I know nothing about reloading???? It's even worse with pellet guns. After talking to the ATF today and a few class III dealers, I have come to realize that getting a silencer for my rimfire is too much a PITA for my rodent problem. On to pellet guns......man have they come a long way since 1980!! I'm looking at the gamo sshhhhhh in .177 and the benny xl 1100 in .22 for popping ground squirrels aka sage rats. The gamo is $250 and the benny is $300. Seem like to do get more with the benny but I know nothing about pellet guns. I do realize too that the .177 is faster yet less energy but I don't need the speed like I do the destructive power. I can get within 10-15 yrds of these retards. Is the benny worth the money and a good gun or what else should I be considering???? Thanks a bunch!!!

The Gamo is MUCH more quiet... Just as deadly to small animals. I have the Gamo Deluxe, I have yet to personally shoot it. But my father is currently whiping out the east coast population of squirrels, chipmunks and crows with it. He says he can take head shots on crows at 30-40 yrds with no problems. I got my Gamo off Cabela's at the beginning of the month from the bargin Cave for $199. It came with the fast ammo as well. The main thing you want to look at if you want a quite air rifle is the speed. The faster the speed the louded the crack will be. This is not because of the rifle itself, but because of the projectile breaking the sound barrier. So I went with a .177 caliber and with the right ammo it will shoot in excess of 1200fps, but with the heavier ammo it will shoot slower and MUCH more quiet. The 22 caliber rifles are slower and pack more punch. But there range also falls of really quick. But they are more quiet too...If you get the Gamo Whisper in 177 caliber and shoot the heavy pellets that travel around 850-900fps, you can accurately take out varmints within 40 yrds and the rifle will hardly make a sound.
