Went out Saturday Morning and took 3 cat squirrel and a nice young sow racoon. The wind started early and shut down the movement. Tried again Sunday morning and got these four on what primarily was a deer scouting adventure.

Should make for some good dumplins.

Have a Good One,

Yes, It's a pump Benjamin 22 cal. They've been around for many decades and still good rifles IMO.

This particular pump is 16 years old and still shoots as it did when new.

Accuracy? It is good for sub 1" groups at 30 yards easily with Copperhead round nose pellets.

8 pumps and the squirrels don't stand a chance, sometimes it exits but a good many are just under the hide on the off side. I recieved full penetration on the small racoon, the pellets were just under the hide on the off side.

Have a Good One

I'm Paid to kill---Both Benjamin and Sheridan now owned by Crosman. The Sheridan and Benjamin were somewhat comparable--except the Sheridan Blue/Silver Streak is 5MM(.20 cal). I personally like the 5mm and consider it the best of both worlds between the .177 and .22's,even though the .22 is probably a better choice on squirrels???? Reloader does have his setup with a scope and on the small game board did say it was a little clumsy. I have my Sheridans set up with peep sights and for me,I can do about as well as I do with a scope. If you can be lucky enough to find an old Sheridan,it will not be drilled and tapped for the peep, but getting it done is not too costly. The newer ones come drilled and tapped. I have read that on Benjamins if you go with peep sight you need a taller front sight, but you don't have that situation on the Sheridan--the stock sight works fine. Either way,I consider the Sheridan or the Benjamin one of the better buys in somewhat lower priced air guns--probably around $200 for a new one with peep sight, but it should last you a lifetime. If you do scope it,it does not require the special scope as does a spring air. I use mine a lot for sparrows and 4 pumps works great.

Hey Reloader, Nice mess of Squirrels.

I have one of the Sheridan Blue Streaks in 20cal that Carpetman mentioned. On the laft side of the Action there are two Screws holding a small Plate in about the middle of where the Bolt sets. Is that where the Peep fits?

Got mine when I had a Boat, to keep a neighbor's cat from sleeping on the Boat Cover. When the cat got on it, the Boat Cover would "sag" where the cat had been and allow rain to drip into the Boat.

Started with 2-pumps and increased it a pump each night until the cat stayed away. Might have made it to 5-pumps, not sure.

Have also used it on some Crows that decided to awaken me in a residentual area. They soon learned that when the door barely opened, it was time to depart.

Excellent on Squirrels with the regular old Fixed Sights. But I can see where a scope would be nice for my old eyes.

Good Hunting and clean 1-shot Kills.

Hot core---The two screws on the right of a Sheridan are for bolt removal. Not a peep. The right side is where the peep attaches so you probably have an older one which would need to be drilled and tapped for peep. I have no experience with the newer ones but one guy told me he could see the pellet at 8 pumps---I dont see them on older ones above 4 pumps???? For my older eyes, the peep works well. I do have a scoped RWS and do about as well with the peep as I do the scope.

Nothing on the Right side. I'd guess I got it around `78. Hard to believe 39 years ago. I don't know if I can see the Pellets from mine or not. Never thought about it.

When I put it in the Safe, I always put 1-pump on it. Not sure where that came from. May have been the original Owner's Manual, or something I just dreamed up. Do you all do that?

Also have a Beeman 20cal Sampler Pack that a buddy gave me for helping him with a Reloading Problem maybe 20 years ago. Have yet to try them because the regular Sherridan Pellets do so well. I do need to try them out though.

What size Groups do you all get and at what yardage?

Hot Core--I agree the 20 cal Sheridan pellets work great--I buy either the yellow box cylindrical or the red diablos depending on which is cheaper as I cant tell that much difference. Yes Benjamin/Sheridan does recommend storing them with 2 pumps.

I just reread the instructions that came with the Benjamin 397 that I purchased last year. The last step in the "reviewing Safety section" says: Before you store your airgun, make sure that it is unloaded, not charged, and that the airgun is "ON SAFE".

I have heard many say to leave them with a pump or two in them. It looks like Crosman/Benjamin/Sheridan has changed their recommendations for pumping up before storing.
